The First iPod
Intro
"Hello everyone, I'm Dre and I'll be talking about the first iPod. So before we even talk about the first iPod we have to understand what life was like before that. In 2000 and 2001, there were mp3 players but people had problems with the designs. They were bulky, they had no storage space and they were expensive. Some MP3 players would only have 1 or 2 of these problems but they would be more of a problem. For example, the Nomad Jukebox was $500 for 6GB of storage space which is about 2,000 songs but it was hard to carry around. The smaller options i2Go EGo were easy to carry and had 2GB of storage which is about 500 songs but was $2000. Unless you're rich you're not buying that.First iPod
The first iPod was invented by Steve Jobs and Tony Fandell. It was released on October 23, 2001. During this time Apple was a known company but was not a powerhouse like it is now. It had computers but that was it. When Apple released the iPod it became popular. The design of the iPod was about the size of a deck of cards. So it was something you could carry easily around with you on the go. It had 5GB of storage on it which is about 1,000 songs. It was sold for $400 dollars which is not something I would consider as cheap but it's way better than paying $2000 for the EGo.The Impact
Now who here listens to music on their phone? Yeah all of us if not most of us. I saw a study by MusicWatch that looked into internet users who listen to music on their phones. The study found around 90% of people in the US listen to music on streaming platforms. Now not to get into streaming platforms but who listens to music on Apple Music? Ok. Now the reason why I asked about this was because Apple music stemmed from iTunes. Now the 2 are different but iTunes was the start that came with the iPod. That was how you downloaded the songs onto the iPod. You could also make a playlist which was a feature that other MP3 players didn't have.
Most of the ways we listen to music come from the first iPod. Now finding ways to listen to music on the go, that's not super expensive, and worry about storage anymore. Now it's our phones. In the space of communication, it influenced the idea of smaller items like smaller portable speakers, smaller headphones, and even podcasts.
Now I thought this was going to have a negative effect with intervention but I didn't find any good evidence that can negatively affect people. I thought maybe people were more likely to be robbed in public because they are distracted but no. The National Institute of Health said that the only negative effect is playing music too loud can cause hearing damage or that exercising with things like earbuds can cause damage. But the invention itself has no negative effects. Thank you for listing."
